Two artists are coming to the The 7 Space this month, and they share a question: how do we cherish the lives behind the photographs we keep?
Matilda Forsberg builds paintings from archival family pictures. Delilah Peach guides us into the sacredness of archiving itself. Both invite us into the work of preservation—the kind that goes deeper than capture.
Newark Stories — Saturday, May 16, 2:00–4:00 P.M.
We're partnering with NJPAC for this special workshop experience, where you can help inspire a mural by Matilda Forsberg that will live in NJPAC’s Cooperman Center.
Matilda is a painter, creative, preserver of heritage and memories, and she’s been commissioned to create an original, site-specific public artwork in NJPAC’s transforming downtown Newark campus. Her mural explores how care lives in our bodies, how it is expressed, held, and captured through image and memory. Matilda’s intention is to feature real people and real stories—you and your stories.
Bring a personal photograph connected to Newark—an image of family, friendship, celebration, neighborhood life, or a meaningful moment. You’ll have the opportunity to share the story behind your image, reflect on ways care is expressed in our community, and contribute to a collective visual experience rooted in Newark’s history and spirit. This gathering will be curated by award-winning facilitator, community architect, and co-founder of The 7 Space, Altagracia Montilla.
Bring a photograph that matters to you, and join us this weekend.
Treasures of Us — Saturday, May 23, 12:00–3:00 P.M.
The following Saturday, Delilah Peach returns to The 7 Space for Treasures of Us—to guide us through this warm, story-filled introduction to archiving.
Delilah invites us to explore the question: What does it mean to preserve a life, a story, a moment? This experience leans into the power of preserving our stories. Delilah is a photographer, digital creator, and multimedia storyteller with over 20 years of experience capturing both everyday and extraordinary moments. She does a beautiful job at making the archiving accessible and reminding us that our stories are worth preserving.
Here, you’ll begin building your own archive, receive preservation tools, and be photographed as part of your living history.
RSVP: Each guest receives a raffle ticket to win a box of archival items, a 1 TB portable hard drive, & more!
Two artists. One thread.
Matilda paints our stories. Delilah teaches us how to preserve our stories. Together, they're inviting us to slow down with the images and objects we've carried—and to leave behind something beautiful for the people who come after us.
If you can join us for both, we hope you will.
