Bantu Beading Jewelry returns to The 7 Space
This Saturday, Zola Dubé returns to The 7 Space with Bantu Beading.
Zola Dube, who is of Zulu ancestry, brings the tradition of Ubuhlalu with her, the Southern African practice of beadwork that holds story and lineage in the maker's hands.
Zola is as much a historian as she is an artist. She leads workshops with great intention, teaching the craft while sharing rich history and the deeper, symbolic meaning behind the jewelry. This time, she is introducing blue beads, which bring their own special significance.
In this workshop, you will sit with the materials, learn the tradition, and leave with a piece of jewelry you made yourself.

About Zola
Zola Dubé is a fine artist and independent researcher of Zulu descent, with ancestors from KwaDukuza, KwaZulu Natal. Her work preserves the knowledge that lives in beadwork — the patterns, the colors, the meaning carried across generations. She is gentle in her teaching and precise in her tradition.
What you will leave with
A handcrafted piece of jewelry made by your own hands. The story of the practice you were just part of. Three hours of a meditative practice with community members.
